Need room for your toys and projects? 3,000 square feet of CLIMATE CONTROLLED "pilot cave" oughta do the trick!
Yea - heated AND air conditioned!!
The 50' deep by 60' wide steel building was constructed in conjunction with the excavation for the basement of the house. The fill from the house basement dig was used to create the pad for the hangar. The 50' wide Hi-Fold hangar door opens to a height of nearly 14' and has a remote opener, similar to a garage door remote.
The hangar is heated AND air conditioned!
Heat is provided with a Reznor forced-air furnace and supplemented with a high-efficiency Vermont Castings catalytic wood burning stove. The firewood rack next to the rear door holds an ample amount of wood. And in the summertime, the 5-ton air conditioning unit keeps the space cool and dry.
Six skylights installed in the roof illuminate the space by day and five 400 watt metalarc light fixtures provide light at night. The hangar has a full bath with tub and shower, a shop sink, mini-fridge, and cabinets in the kitchen area. 220v electrical is available to power big tools like a welder. 30 and 50 amp service wired for recreation vehicle use is also included. The hangar is insulated with fiberglass insulation. An interior wall kit was installed from floor to ceiling to hide and protect the extra added insulation. A stand-up air compressor is securely bolted to the floor under the stairs that lead to the second floor 11' by 15' 'attic' storage space, where you'll find the electric hot water heater.
The 52' wide by 58' deep concrete pad connects the hangar to Mustang Drive, just a few feet from the hold short line for Runway 23. A textured and stained concrete ramp connects the driveway to the double entry doors in the rear of the building. With both rear doors open, the 6' wide access allows entry for larger stuff - tractor, motorcycle, ATV, etc. - without needing to open the Hi-fold door. A keyless lock is installed on the rear door.
